Feelings Work & Emotion Coaching for Children & Teens in Evidence-Based Treatment

About this Training

As a clinician providing EBT’s like TF-CBT and AF-CBT, are you looking for a structured but creative way of eliciting neutral and trauma-related feelings from children who have experienced trauma that incorporates gradual exposure? Need a systematic, effective approach for helping caregivers who avoid their own emotions learn how to help their dysregulated children as well as themselves? This is the advanced emotions course you have been needing!

Most clinicians find Affective Expression work to be squarely in our comfort zone. We’re less confident about the Regulation part of this topic and even less sure about how to teach these skills to caregivers -  yet we recognize children will spend an average of 1 hour/ week with the therapist and 167 hours/week with their caregiver. Who is likely to have the biggest impact?

This workshop grounds us in the group’s best techniques plus many more the trainer will share with you. We then will look at which of the interventions related to feelings work in TF-CBT and AF-CBT match the goals of the topics, and how these should be individualized based on the needs of the family/client we serve.

Finally, we’ll dedicate some time and practice to learning Emotion Coaching skills, which is a Parenting game changer for the caregiver-child relationship. This enables the child to access their caregiver as a resource, not as “the fixer”, and develop this skill for themselves. Learn techniques for inviting caregivers to be more curious about and reflect on what their children might be feeling, what they, too, are feeling, and how they can match their resources to meet their children’s needs. We will use case examples to teach the importance of timing and how to get that right, even for angry and explosive teens.

Come to training with your favorite, most effective and creative Affective Expression/Regulation interventions ready to share with fellow trainees. Then we will combine our wisdom and experience and build on that foundation to take our skills to the next level.

Participants should have access to the internet and web cameras. Recorded self-paced training requires passing a quiz and includes verification of participation in training.
