TF-CBT for Young Children: They're Small but Mighty!
About this Training
Dr. Esther Deblinger’s original TF-CBT work was done with preschoolers, and yet, many clinicians say "it can’t be done with the little ones!” Bah! This course will boost your confidence and competence helping the 3-8 year olds you serve with TF-CBT … as well as their caregivers! Join us to learn which assessments to use, how to teach young children about trauma symptoms and experiences in a way they can understand, and how to incorporate books and play into your interventions so learning is fun and helps children understand complex subjects and make new positive associations with the trauma. You will also learn and practice strategies that help even preschoolers be successful doing metacognitive work.
Learn how to enhance the TF-CBT model for this active, heartwarming treatment population, and leave with loads of creative strategies you can save and use in your practice. Case examples from my experience will be used to illustrate interventions – including things that went well and mistakes I have made that you can learn from.
Participants should have access to the internet and web cameras. Recorded self-paced training requires passing a quiz and includes verification of participation in training.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this training, participants will be able to:
-
Describe three ways to structure TF-CBT sessions with young children for success.
-
Describe and implement an In Vivo Mastery Plan for sleep refusal
-
Individualize and apply at least three creative strategies for engaging young children in the PRACTICE components of TF-CBT
-
Design appropriate session agendas and interventions for PRACTICE components, including Trauma Narration and Processing techniques
View Session Agenda, CE credit policy, and refund policy
Who should attend this training?
This training is appropriate for master’s level clinicians/social worker and clinical supervisors, but interns/students who are working on their master’s degrees will also benefit. Seasoned clinicians will find these clinical skills enhance their assessment skills and interventions in TF-CBT and other evidence-based treatment models. Training is interactive with engaging activities and opportunities to practice the skills.
