About this Training

Ethics training for trauma clinicians shouldn't feel like a compliance checkbox. This full-day training is built around the real situations your clinicians and multidisciplinary team are already navigating: dual relationships, mandated reporting dilemmas, ethical use of evidence-based treatments, documentation integrity, and decision-making under pressure in the gray areas that don't have clean answers.

Providing evidence-based trauma treatment means making complex ethical decisions in real time, across systems, and under pressure. This engaging training brings together the core ethical principles shared across mental health disciplines and applies them directly to the realities of TF-CBT, AF-CBT, and multidisciplinary work.

Through case-based activities, including a structured case-consultation exercise that reflects real MDT challenges and dynamics, participants deepen their ethical reasoning, sharpen boundary-setting skills, and build confidence navigating dilemmas involving confidentiality, role clarity, and client safety. The day also examines how cognitive bias and overconfidence quietly impact clinical judgment, and closes by framing self-care and sustainable empathy as ethical obligations, not afterthoughts.

Content is customized to the Children's Advocacy Center setting and the ethical terrain trauma clinicians and other MDT members actually face.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this training, participants will be able to:

• Identify the nine fundamental ethical principles common to all mental health disciplines and explain how they apply to trauma-focused evidence-based treatment.

• Differentiate the ethical challenges unique to Children's Advocacy Center and multidisciplinary team settings from those in community mental health, including questions of client identity, information sharing, and court involvement. 

• Apply a structured ethical decision-making process to real-world dilemmas involving dual relationships, mandated reporting, confidentiality, and duty to warn. 

• Analyze the role of cognitive bias, overconfidence, and the confidence-accuracy gap in clinical judgment, and evaluate strategies for reducing their influence on ethical decisions.

• Formulate individualized self-care and competence-monitoring practices that support ethical practice and reduce the impact of moral injury.​​

Who should attend this training?

This training is appropriate for master’s level clinicians/social workers and clinical supervisors, but all MDT members and interns/students will also benefit. Seasoned clinicians will find these clinical skills enhance their assessment skills and interventions in TF-CBT and other evidence-based treatment models. Training is interactive with engaging activities and opportunities to practice the skills.
